Beleaguered businessman Zameer Karim who ‘donated’ the controversial K145 million to President Peter Mutharika has again given $200,000 (approx. K147,000) to help propel the battered image of Mutharika ahead of the watershed May elections.
We can reveal that, unlike last time where he deposited the K145 million into a DPP account whose sole signatory is President Mutharika, this time Karim played it safe by making the money available in cash to President Mutharika’s aides, Mabvuto Bamusi and Dr Bright Molande.
Zameer also roped in his relatives to contribute to the bounty namely controversial businessman Karim Batatabala and Kukoma Oil owner Karim.
Batatabala is suing government for K54 billion for the uniforms that he supplied late to the Immigration Department
As a result of the windfall, Molande and Bamusi have hired SIX international media consultants to prop up the image of Mutharika ahead of the elections.
We can reveal that Dr Daniel Mandishona Jnr. and five others have been hired from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Bostwana.
The six are drawing a daily consultancy fee of $1,200 (approx. K882,000) per day.
“Apart from this, State House is paying for their accommodation and food at the Peermont President Hotel and Golden Peacock Hotel, ” said the source privy to the deal.
The six started their work on 1st April and their contract finishes on May 30,2019.
“Dr Molande and Mr Bamusi identified these consultants and signed the contracts with them. There is just too much money involved, ” he said.
Dr Mandishona Jnr and his group has only managed to design four newspaper adverts for the DPP since they were hired on 1st April,2019.
