ShareWORLD Open University and the Media Council of Malawi (MCM) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing media education and promoting ethical journalism practices in Malawi.
The signing ceremony, held at ShareWORLD University main campus in Lilongwe, was presided over by ShareWORLD University Vice Chancellor Dr. Theodora Mapemba Musamba and MCM Vice Chairperson Patricia Kamnkhwani.
The partnership seeks to leverage MCM’s expertise to improve ShareWORLD’s media training programs, provide practical training opportunities for Mass Communication students.
Dr. Musamba emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “By working together, we can create a brighter future for our students, communities, and the nation.”
The MOU will enhance curriculum and assessment, facilitate practical training and internships for the University students, and promote ethical journalism practices, among other benefits.
MCM’s Moses Kaufa said the MoU will help improve professionalism through enhanced quality training as the council will help the University in shaping relevant journalism curriculum that is relevant to emerging trends.
“We will collaborate in research projects, knowledge sharing and publications initiatives,” he said, adding that the council will facilitate internships for university students with affiliated media houses.
ShareWORLD University also announced plans to launch a campus radio station, ShareWORLD Radio, which will provide a platform for students, faculty, and the community to share their voices and showcase their talents.
The partnership is expected to bridge the gap between academia and the media sector, producing graduates who are knowledgeable, skilled, innovative, and adaptable.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the journey of ShareWORLD University, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and sustainable human capital development.
