Malawi’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship has announced a major upgrade to the country’s passport system, introducing robust security features and convenient online services.
The new system is made possible by a five-year contract with Madras Security Printers, worth 52 billion kwacha.
The new passport system meets international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization under the United Nations. Key features include:
- Enhanced Security: Robust security features to prevent counterfeiting and ensure authenticity.
- Online Payment: Applicants can now pay for services online, reducing congestion at regional offices.
- Mobile Kit: Citizens can have their passport photos taken in their own communities, making the application process more accessible.
This development is expected to make the passport application process more convenient and efficient for Malawians.
