Vice President Saluos Chilima has assured people of Nkhotakota that the Tonse alliance will start implementing the cheap fertilizer at K4,495 as a priority immediately the opposition alliance gets into government.

Chilima, who is UTM Leader and Tonse alliance runningmate, said this during whistle stop campaign meetings he held in Nkhotakota district on Thursday to sell the candidancy of Lazarous Chakwera.

Speaking at his first stop at Dwangwa, Chilima assured the people that they will start buying a 50kg bag of fertlizer at K4,495 from the current K25,000 immediately the alliance gets into government.

” Immediately after winning we will start implementing our promise to reduce the price of fertilizer to K4,495. This is one of our priority areas of focus and implementation. Be assured that you will start buying the cheap fertilizer once the allaince takes over government,” said Chilima.

He then lifted a K50 kg bag of fertilizer to signify the seriousness the alliance is attaching to cheap fertilizer as a means to attain food security at household and nationa level.

Chilima therefore urged the people to verify their names during the voter verification excerise and vote for MCP Presidential candidate Dr Lazarous Chakwera in large numbers to change the future of the country.

The Veep urged people not to listen to people who are using religion as a campaign tool, saying no government can ban Islam or any religion in a mutiparty democracy.

” Do not be deceived, no leader at present or in future will abolish any religion in the country. This is a total lie meant to divide the country on religious lines,” said Chilima.

UDF Leader Atupele Muluzi, who is also the DPP/UDF runningamte, has come under heavy critism for bringing religion into politics and using it as a campaign tool during his whistle stops in Chiradzulu last week.

The Public Affairs Committe (PAC) has since demanded that Atupele should apologise for bringing religion into politics.

Chilima held 9 whistle stops on Thursday in Nkhotakota to garner support for MCP Torch bearer Chakwera.

He also promised that the alliance will rehabilitate the lakeshore road to spur development in the lakeshore districts of Salima, Nkhotakota and Nkhatabay and easy movement to Mzuzu using the lakeshore road.
Chilima has taken his campaign trail to the rural hitherlands of Nkhotatakota and Salima this week.

According to a program released by the UTM party, Chilima will hold a total of 24 imbizos in the two lakeshore districts from Thurdsay to Saturday before a main rally at Mtakataka on Saturday.

Some of the notable places Chilima will stop over are Dwangwa, Luwelezi, Nkhotakota boma, Kaphamtenga, Mvera, Kamuzu road, Senga-bay and Chipoka.
