Malawi Investment Trade Centre (MITC) Board Chairperson James Chuma is entangled into office abuse with information in our possession that he comes to Lilongwe from Blantyre three times a week and claim allowances from MITC when he is not attending any board meeting.
Chuma, Businessman is the man to talk to if you want any government business or favours from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who last year replaced the once flamboyant Leston Mulli.
Sources told The Maravi post that MITC continue paying his allowances, accommodation and driven by MITC driver whenever is in Lilongwe.
Chuma is said to be controlling all government businesses with him getting the lions share and in the end funding some of the parties strategic activities including the lost presidential elections case.
“He usually go to party meetings and sometimes meeting Finance Minister Joseph Mwamveka but MITC shouldering the bills. The driver drives him around Lilongwe drinking beer till 1am or 2 am,” reveals the source.
In the recent UK – African Summit, he monopolised a list of people to travel and brought in cadets with small shops in Blantyre.
This angered the organising team from UK and wrote MITC for send a bunch of people that did not do anything. On the same trip, Chuma directed the body MITC to change his travel schedule.
With pressure the booked an air ticket that took him to China, South Africa then Malawi from UK.
In China he went just to pick his son who was coming for a holiday from one of the universities in China and this son is not a minor.
Chuma is abusing office taking advantage of the current MITC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Clement Kumbemba who is also DPP cadet.
Prior to lost presidential election case Chuma used to pay the lawyers representing President Peter Mutharika
Chuma is also involved in paying DPP cadets who have been on a petrol bombing spree lately. Efforts to get his side of the story proved futile as we to press.
