The Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb) has said some students who have certificates issued by Bedir International Schools should consider them invalid after it found out the Principal and his deputy have allegedly been doctoring them using a software of their own.
The shrewed scheme came to light when a student, whose identity has been kept under wraps, wanted to enroll at an institution in the Netherlands and upon trying to verify with Maneb they uncovered the plot.
Public relations officer for Maneb Mayamiko Chiwaya said Bedir International Schools awarded certificates regardless of whether a student passed Maneb examinations or not.
Chiwaya could not give a timeline on when the school started to issue the certificates to give a picture of how many students have been affected due to the illicit dealings saying she needed time to get that information.
Speaking in a telephone interview Chiwaya said this means the students cannot use the false documents to secure a place in higher learning institution in Malawi and internationally.
She did say they are not done with their investigations and there could be charges leveled against the school.
With Limbe Police involved the two; Principal Tayfun Aldamnz, and his deputy Yusuf Ibrahim Kabuthu have been arrested and will be taken to court where they will answer charges of uttering false documents and forgery.
In a statement issued on its official page Maneb said: “Investigations have revealed that the school developed software which it uses to produce certificates and that the awarding of the certificates is regardless of whether one passes MSCE examinations or not. The fake certificates bear the words ‘Republic of Malawi ‘ and ‘Ministry of Education’.”
It said Maneb is the only Malawi Government established agency established to issue certificates to MSCE candidates who fulfil requirements for the awarding of the certificates saying it is a crime to use the words Republic of Malawi without Government’s approval.
Questions sent to the school for comment are yet to be responded to.-(Source Kulinji.com)
